Officers were conducting a traffic stop in the area of 518 Warren Street. One of the officers was inside their marked cruiser conducting an inquiry of the stopped motor vehicle. As the officers remained in the cruiser, he felt an unknown liquid substance hit him in the face and arms. The officer informed his partner that a vehicle drove by them and threw something towards them. Officers immediately cleared the traffic stop and were able to locate the suspected vehicle.

Police said the episode began around 7:15 p.m. Saturday after officers stopped a car on Warren Street in Roxbury. While sitting in his cruiser, one officer was hit by a liquid from a vehicle driving by.

The officers left the traffic stop, pulled over the passing car and told the occupants they had interfered with the stop, according to police. One male passenger told the police “he meant to scare them,” the officers recounted.

The man refused the officers’ request to exit the car, and police said they noticed the man was “hunched forward.”

After removing the man from the vehicle, the officers said they found a loaded handgun in his waistband — as well as a squirt gun inside the car.

The man was identified as Danyael Torres , 23, of Dorchester. While the other occupants of the car were released, Torres was arrested on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, carrying a firearm without a license and illegal possession of ammunition.

He is expected to appear Monday in Roxbury District Court.
