Rep. Abigail Spanberger

U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger, serving Virginia’s 7th District, brings a distinguished background in federal law enforcement and national security to her role in Congress. She first swore an oath to the U.S. Constitution as a federal agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, investigating money laundering and narcotics cases. Later, as a CIA case officer, she worked undercover both domestically and internationally, collecting intelligence, combating terrorism, and informing critical national security decisions.

In Congress, Spanberger has been a steadfast advocate for law enforcement officers and public servants. She co-led the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which reduce retirement benefits for law enforcement officers and other public servants. Her leadership ensured the legislation passed the House and advanced to the Senate, with the goal of restoring full benefits to over 2 million public servants.

Spanberger also championed bipartisan legislation — now law — that ensures parity for retired police officers, providing access to a vital tax benefit for health insurance premiums. Additionally, she introduced the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) on the Beat Program Reauthorization and Parity Act, securing over $1 billion in annual funding to support rural and low-income communities, officer wages and recruitment efforts.

Rep. Spanberger’s legislative actions demonstrate her unwavering commitment to law enforcement officers, ensuring they receive the resources, benefits and recognition they deserve while strengthening public safety for all communities.
