LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An off-duty Jefferson County deputy was shot and killed early Thursday while sitting in his personal vehicle, according to LEX 18. Police say Deputy Brandon Shirley, 26, was working a security job when someone walked up and shot him.
“We can say, with a feeling of confidence, that he was targeted and that he was ambushed,” said Louisville Police Chief Erika Shields to LEX 18. “We will make an arrest.”
According to WKYT, Shirley was wearing a uniform when he was shot.
Shirley joined the sheriff’s office in 2019. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning. The investigation is ongoing.
