Andrew Tisch, co-chairman of Loews Corporation, has made a significant impact on law enforcement through his leadership and philanthropy. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the New York City Police Foundation (NYCPF), Tisch has guided the independent nonprofit organization in its mission to promote excellence within the NYPD and enhance public safety across New York City.
Under Tisch’s leadership, the NYCPF has funded transformative programs that have bolstered the effectiveness and well-being of the NYPD. These include the Crime Stoppers program, which facilitates anonymous crime reporting, the International Liaison Program, which strengthens global cooperation, and professional development initiatives that empower NYPD officers with advanced training.
In 2021, to commemorate the Foundation’s 50th anniversary, Tisch launched the “50 Grants for 50 Precincts” Program, a $1 million initiative encouraging NYPD precincts to propose innovative projects. Each selected precinct received up to $20,000 to support programs focused on officer wellness, community engagement and honoring fallen officers.
Tisch also oversaw the Foundation’s funding of the redesign of the Times Square Substation, enhancing its functionality and public engagement capabilities. This project exemplifies the strong partnership between the NYCPF and the NYPD, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to advancing public safety.
The NYCPF has a history of innovation under Tisch’s guidance, including providing the initial funding for CompStat, a data-driven management approach credited with significantly reducing crime rates in New York City. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tisch ensured the Foundation distributed critical supplies, including over 800,000 masks, 200,000 pairs of gloves and 81,000 containers of hand sanitizer, ensuring officer safety and operational continuity during a challenging time.
