Police1 Staff Report
(HINESVILLE, Ga.) -- A former Ludowici police officer was indicted by a Liberty County grand jury yesterday for the murder of two women and two children.
Calvin B. Williams, 28, will be tried for murder of Lisa Bymon,26, whom he had once dated, and her two children Juwan, 5, and Desiree, 7, who were found stabbed multiple times and shot in the head on July 1.
Ponda Davis, 28, was also found stabbed 46 times, according to the Savannah Morning News. Davis’ children discovered the grim scene and called the police.
District Attorney Tom Durden told the newspaper that he plans to seek the death penalty against the former officer.
According the Morning News, friends and family said that Williams, who is married with children, had dated Bymon. They said that Bymon had wanted to end the relationship, but Williams became violent, threatened to kill her and burn her face with an iron.
Relatives told the newspaper that Bymon had changed the locks on her house shortly before the murders.
“I pray every day to God to give me peace to heal my family. We were cheated. He hurt our family. He hurt Ponda’s family. He hurt his family,” Lynnette Barnard, Bymon’s sister told the Morning News.
Although Williams acknowledges that no one saw him on the night of the murders, he said he was in Ludowici staking out drug dealers.
One clue found at the murder scene might make things harder on Williams defense attorney.
Police found a trail that appeared to have been made by someone with a right limp and they found footprints that appeared to be from two different shoes -- a boot and a soft soled shoe, the newspaper reported.
Williams fractured his right leg and had a brace put on it five days before the murder. Police also found a footprint in Williams’ garage that seemed to match the soft-soled footprint at the murder scene, the Savannah newspaper reported.
