GLEN LYON, Pa. (AP) - A state trooper fatally shot a man who threatened police with a shotgun, authorities said.
Howard Henry Post, 32, of Glen Lyon, had sexually assaulted a woman and threatened to kill her two daughters and 11-month-old granddaughter, police said. When two state troopers arrived and were stepping out of a police car before dawn Friday, Post came out of the house with a shotgun and raised its barrel in the direction of the policemen, authorities said. Trooper Fred Linbuchler fired a single shot, killing Post instantly.
“Our investigation reveals up to this point the troopers were justified in using deadly force,” Luzerne County District Attorney David W. Lupas said.
As part of a routine police practice, Linbuchler and the other trooper, Mark Sadowski, were reassigned to administrative duties as the investigation continued.
The victim had filed a protection from abuse order against Post on Dec. 17, police said.
