SEATTLE — Officers with the Seattle Police Department were swarmed by wasps while apprehending a carjacking suspect, body-worn camera video shows.
The arrest happened Aug. 13 when officers received a call regarding a male suspect attempting to carjack multiple victims with a knife, the department said in a news release.
Victims told officers the suspect blocked traffic and attempted to stop and take vehicles.
Officers arrived at the area in a tunnel and located the suspect. The suspect fled on foot but was caught in a wooded area.
While taking the suspect into custody, the arresting officers and the suspect were stung by wasps several times.
“There’s hornets everywhere,” an officer can be heard saying on the video.
As the officers start to make their way out of the wooded area, the body camera video shows the wasps crawling on their uniforms and skin.
“Yellowjackets everywhere!” another officer said.
The officers and the suspect were taken to a hospital for treatment of stings.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault, property destruction and attempted robbery.
