LAS VEGAS — Body cam footage from a suspected DUI stop last week shows the driver refusing to follow instructions before pulling a gun from a bush and firing at officers.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, officers responded to calls regarding a three-car crash around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and were told by the two other drivers that Kenneth Ryan Busse Jr., 21, seemed impaired when he crashed into them.

Officers Chad Betts and Kenneth Pilette instructed Busse to undergo a field sobriety test, which footage shows Busse refused.

Busse continued to ignore instructions until he ran to a nearby bush and pulled out a handgun hidden inside it.

Pilette fired four rounds. Busse fired back once before his gun jammed. Betts then shot Busse twice, killing him at the scene.

Assistant Sheriff Tim Kelly referred to the incident as a “suicide by cop,” according to the Review-Journal.

“It’s unfortunate this incident did not end with just cars being damaged and a citation,” he said.

Neither officer was injured.
