GEARY, Okla. — In a sudden upheaval, the entire police department and two city council members in Geary resigned on the same day, KOCO reported.
The police chief and the entire force handed in their badges on Oct. 31, announcing their departure on social media. Former chief Alicia Ford expressed gratitude for the town’s support and urged residents to engage more actively in local governance. No specific reasons for the resignations were provided.
“It is with great sadness that I and the rest of the Geary Police Officers will no longer be serving this community,” Ford stated. “This choice was very difficult to make, but it was the right decision for me and the other officers.”
The former chief disclosed that the interim chief of police had been hired by the city council to conduct an audit of the police department, according to the report.
The shake-up extended to the city council, where members Rocky Coleman and Kristy Miller also stepped down. In his resignation letter, Coleman cited differences in values with the city’s direction and condemned what he saw as the influence of personal agendas over public service, according to the report.
Residents expressed deep concern over the situation.
“We don’t have much of a city anymore,” one resident told KOCO, while another urged town leadership to address underlying issues promptly.
In the interim, the Blaine and Canadian County sheriff’s offices are assisting with public safety, according to the report. The city has not clarified the cause of the resignations but has assured residents that an interim police chief is in place to manage the department during the transition.
