McLEAN, Virginia — Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund is featured in a new podcast series, “Heroes Behind the Badge,” where he provides his detailed account of the events surrounding January 6, 2021.

The podcast, produced by Citizens Behind the Badge (CBB), includes a three-part video interview premiering January 28 on YouTube, with an audio preview episode now available on major podcast platforms.

In his first in-depth interview since being exonerated by Congress last month, Chief Sund discusses the challenges his department faced during the Capitol riot. He shares insights from his book, “Courage Under Fire,” including details on intelligence shortfalls, the response efforts by Capitol Police, and the toll the event took on officers and their families.

The series is hosted by CBB President Craig W. Floyd, alongside co-hosts Bill Erfurth and Dennis Collins. Floyd noted that the interview provides a comprehensive look at the obstacles faced by law enforcement on January 6, while also highlighting moments of resilience and bravery.

“For nearly three years, politics overshadowed the heroic actions of law enforcement on January 6th,” Floyd said. “Through Chief Sund’s riveting first-hand account of what happened on January 6, viewers will get a rare and emotion-packed glimpse into the true story behind that fateful day and the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to defend the Capitol.”

The video series will explore:

  • The effort to secure reinforcements during the attack.
  • Stories of officers defending Congress despite being outnumbered.
  • Decisions and challenges related to mobilizing military support.
  • The impact of the riot on Capitol Police personnel.
  • Chief Sund’s experience in the aftermath, including his resignation and exoneration.

“Heroes Behind the Badge” premieres January 28 on YouTube, with audio episodes available on platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify. New episodes of the series will be released bi-weekly.
