LAREDO, Texas —As part of its 175th anniversary celebration, the Laredo Police Department has unveiled a commemorative badge and patch honoring its long history of service, the Laredo Morning Times reported.

During a recent news conference, LPD Chief Miguel A. Rodriguez Jr. detailed the significance of the special badge, which is a replica of the one worn by Laredo Police Chief Mike Brennan in 1927, according to the report. The design was recreated from the only known image of the badge, displayed in the department’s hall.

“In keeping with that tradition, we wanted to extend this very special emblem to our officers, allowing them to wear it with pride throughout our 175th anniversary celebration. It is more than just a badge; it is a connection to our past, a reflection of our legacy,” the chief said.

The commemorative patch features Laredo’s downtown landscape and an international bridge, symbolizing the city’s unity and resilience as a border community, according to the report.

Not all police patches are created equal — each one tells a story of a police department’s history and service

“This milestone honors nearly two centuries of protecting and serving the citizens of Laredo,” Rodriguez said. “As we reflect on our past, we also renew our promise to uphold the values that define us — honor, duty and service.”

The department’s anniversary celebration will include a series of community events in the coming months, according to the report.
