Jill Paccione-Frometa, a current doctoral student and adjunct lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, is recruiting law enforcement officers nationwide for a survey on police attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines and vaccine mandates.
This new study follows up on exploratory research conducted during the peak of the Delta variant and the simultaneous implementation of vaccine mandates. Paccione-Frometa observed that police officers were often not given a voice regarding COVID-19 vaccinations and were vilified by the media. Furthermore, she noted the lack of peer-reviewed studies on this topic, despite the crucial frontline role of police officers, particularly in New York City. To date, only one peer-reviewed publication exists on this matter, with Paccione-Frometa’s research currently under review for publication.
The study aims to investigate the influence of trust and media on police officers’ decision-making process regarding COVID-19 vaccination. It will also examine whether vaccine mandates significantly impact the recruitment and retention challenges faced by police departments across the country.
The survey is designed to be short, anonymous and can be completed online at the officers’ convenience. No identifying information will be collected. Click here to participate.
