CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department has lost a third officer to COVID-19.
According to the Chicago Tribune, 59-year-old Officer Ronald Newman died Friday morning. Newman had worked for the department since December 2000 and received numerous awards and commendations for his work over the years.
“First responders cannot stay at home during this outbreak. We are out in the public, patrolling the streets and keeping people safe,” Chicago PD Superintendent David Brown said. “Today, there is one less officer that will be out on patrol. The city has lost a dedicated public servant, a husband, a father and a brave, courageous hero.”
