EMS, law enforcement and the fire service have joined forces to create a unified framework for addressing acute behavioral emergencies. This groundbreaking effort culminated in a Consensus Statement from the National Association of EMS Physicians, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the International Association of Chiefs of Police published in Prehospital Emergency Care in September 2024.

To learn more about this initiative, register for a webinar on Monday, December 9, at 1 p.m. ET titled “EMS and Law Enforcement Collaboration Town Hall: Join the Discussion on Acute Behavioral Emergencies.” The webinar will be hosted by Dr. Jose Cabanas, NAEMSP President, and feature Dr. Michael Levy, Dr. Diane Miller and Mike McEvoy, Ph.D.

During this CE-earning NAEMSP Town Hall, the consensus statement authors will share insights and actionable solutions to common challenges such as inadequate assessment, communication breakdowns and unconscious bias. Topics will include:

  • Planning and pitfalls from a fire chief’s perspective
  • Maintaining high-quality patient care from the medical director’s standpoint
  • Law enforcement’s role in successful joint training exercises
