NEW YORK — The NYPD has released body camera footage capturing the moment officers pursued and arrested a man accused of snatching a woman’s purse, PIX11 reported.
The incident occurred in a Manhattan subway station on April 6. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Alex Martinez, was caught on body camera video exiting a train, grabbing a purse and fleeing.
The victim and an officer who was standing nearby ran after the thief. The victim fell, but the officer continued to pursue the perpetrator on foot, video shows.
According to the NYPD, during the pursuit, Martinez dropped the purse he was attempting to steal. He was subsequently apprehended on the stairs of the subway station and the purse was returned to the 23-year-old woman, according to the report.
Martinez faces charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
