Fla. Officer Commits Suicide; Police Search For Wife

NBC 6 TV News, Miami

EL PORTAL, Fla. -- El Portal police are trying to piece together a mystery after one of their officers was found dead inside his home.

Police say 41-year-old Officer Philip James Condy was found dead Monday afternoon, but they believe he died several days ago.

Investigators believe Condy committed suicide.

“The officer is a seven-year veteran of the police department and he will be thoroughly missed,” Chief Amos Machanic said.

Police are now searching for Condy’s wife, Ginory, who has been missing since Oct. 30 but wasn’t reported missing until Nov. 6.

“Of course our detectives have talked to several people in the area and to relatives and it is very unusual for her to be missing this amount of time,” Miami-Dade police spokesman Robert Williams said.

Investigators released very little information about the missing woman and they refused to confirm or deny any link between the reported suicide of her husband and her disappearance.

“It is her husband, of course. He would be very important into finding her, but we do have leads as far as relatives and friends and things of that nature that we are looking into,” Williams said.

Police are now questioning the Condys’ teenage daughter, who was believed missing but located late Tuesday afternoon.

Police say Ginory Condy, 39, is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 110 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
