NOOK, Texas — Three officers who gave an underage drinker a chance to get out of a citation by playing a game of rock, paper, scissors are facing discipline over the incident.
KBTX reports the officers, who were hired to work security at a charity event known as Chilifest over the weekend, offered the underage drinker an out for receiving a ticket if she beat them at the game.
The showdown was caught on video and quickly went viral.
Constable Dennis Gaas told KBTX that the officers have been barred from working future security details at the event and may face further discipline in connection to the incident.
Gaas explained further that it was not the lack of citation that was the problem, but the way the officers chose to offer it.
“Officers are given the choice of giving a warning or issuing a citation for any violation they encounter during this event. Playing a game to see if a citation or warning is given does not fall under professional conduct. All officers were instructed during orientation to present a professional appearance and attitude,” Gaas told the Eagle.
