In recent years, firearms-related homicides in the US have peaked to levels not seen in 25 years. Contributing to these statistics are privately made firearms or ‘ghost guns’, which have created significant investigative and safety challenges for law enforcement. Ghost guns are generally devoid of serial numbers or other traceable features making them particularly attractive to those prohibited from owning a firearm.
