MIAMI — Following an incident on Sept. 8 involving Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, a police officer associated with the NFL player’s detainment has been “placed on administrative duties.”

On Sunday morning, ahead of the Dolphins’ first game of the season, Hill was pulled over outside of the team’s stadium before being handcuffed and placed face down on the street, according to the Associated Press. The AP cited that Hill was stopped for speeding and reckless driving.

Shortly after, videos taken by passing bystanders began circulating on social media. In the video, four police officers are seen standing over Hill.

“Following the incident involving Tyreek Hill, I have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter. One of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted,” read a statement by Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels.

“I’m committed to transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers.”

In a following interview, according to the AP, Hill said he “had no idea” why police placed him in handcuffs. The publication also noted that Hill said he respects police officers and is interested in joining law enforcement after he retires from football.

“I want to be able to use this platform to figure out a way to flip this,” he said, according to the Los Angeles Times, “and make it a positive on my end and Miami-Dade and do something positive for the community.”
