NEW YORK — The legacy of a city cop killed in the Iraq War not only will live on — it will spread, thanks to an MTA cop and his German shepherd partner.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Officer Anthony Ferrara has named his new bomb-detection dog Mac, after James McNaughton, an NYPD transit police officer and U.S. Army reservist shot by a sniper on Aug. 2, 2005.
“This is a way to keep his name alive,” Ferrara said of McNaughton, who was 27 years old when killed training Iraqi police.
Ferrara’s assignments will include responding to reports of unattended packages, and patrolling Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station with Mac.
