LOS ANGELES — The LAPD has released body camera video of a pursuit incident, during which a suspect continued to flee after being bitten by a K-9, KABC reported.

The Feb. 17 incident began when an ALPR on a cruiser flagged a license plate as a stolen vehicle, according to the report. Officers followed the vehicle and initiated a pursuit after it sped away through a residential area.

Dash camera video released March 20 shows Ian Jimenez, 21, fleeing on foot after apparently colliding with another vehicle. Body camera footage shows Jimenez running through a neighborhood and climbing fences.

Officers then pursued him on foot, eventually finding Jimenez in a backyard. After attempting to persuade the man to come out of the yard without weapons, the officers released a K-9 into the yard. Surveillance footage shows the K-9 latching onto Jimenez’ arm for at least 20 seconds.

Body camera video shows officers approaching Jimenez and the K-9. A K-9 officer commanded the K-9 to let go as Jimenez pleaded for help. When the K-9 complied, Jimenez fled again.

A police helicopter tracked Jimenez until officers arrived at his new location. A second K-9 team eventually took Jimenez into custody after he held the dog off with a chair, video shows.

Jimenez was treated at a hospital for bite wounds and has been charged with fleeing police, hit-and-run, petty theft and driving a vehicle without an owner’s consent, according to the report.
