LOS ANGELES — The LAPD has added a “hate incident” category to its online reporting page following a spike in reports of racially and religiously motivated incidents, KABC reported.

Officials stated that many hate incidents go unreported, prompting the addition of a category to the Community Online Reporting System (CORS). CORS was created in 2016 to allow for online reporting of traffic incidents and other non-emergency issues, according to the report.

“In 2022 to 2023, our hate crimes are up 15%, but antisemitic hate crimes are up 51% and anti-Muslim, anti-Arab hate crimes are up 140%,” LAPD Assistant Chief Blake Chow stated.

The LAPD has specified that the CORS portal can be used for reporting hate incidents that do not reach the level of hate crimes, according to the report.

“We hope and look to this avenue as an added way for people to have access to their public law enforcement agency to convey these instances,” said LAPD Chief Michel Moore.
