PLANO, Texas — Plano police officers are now permitted to wear “well-groomed” beards under a new policy the Dallas Morning News reported.
The change, which will be reviewed at the end of 2025, aims to adapt to the preferences of personnel while upholding professional standards, according to a department statement.
Attempts by the NYPD to reinstate stricter uniform and grooming standards has sparked a broader conversation about the role of appearance in law enforcement credibility
“We understand change can be difficult, but we believe it’s important to embrace new traditions that foster camaraderie and individuality within our department,” the statement said.
The move aligns with recent updates in nearby Dallas, where police and fire-rescue personnel were also allowed to display tattoos and beards in an effort to improve morale and modernize policies, according to the report.
