Sen. Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio, a U.S. Senator from Florida since 2011, has forged strong ties with the law enforcement community through his legislative efforts and public advocacy. Before his tenure in the Senate, Rubio served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2008, where he began demonstrating his commitment to public safety and law enforcement support.

Among his notable legislative actions is the Providing Officers with Electronic Resources (POWER) Act, which seeks to equip state and local law enforcement with high-tech tools capable of detecting and identifying dangerous drugs, including fentanyl. By establishing a grant program through the U.S. Department of Justice, this act aims to enhance officer safety and effectiveness in managing drug-related incidents, particularly those linked to the opioid crisis.

Rubio also introduced the Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act, which incentivizes states to adopt laws similar to Florida’s “risk protection orders.” These measures allow law enforcement to temporarily restrict firearm access for individuals deemed a threat, reducing the potential for gun violence and enhancing community safety.

In addition to his legislative work, Rubio has actively advocated for increased police funding. He proposed an amendment to a $749 billion climate and tax bill to allocate additional resources for local law enforcement and ensure violent criminals remain incarcerated. Rubio’s consistent focus on addressing violent crime and ensuring public safety underscores his dedication to supporting law enforcement in their mission to protect communities and uphold the rule of law.
