BETHLEHEM, Pa. — An 8-year-old Pennsylvania boy who was once helped by riding therapy horses has donated his birthday money — all $356.36 of it — to benefit mounted police where he lives.
Christian Hackett, who goes by CJ, tells WFMZ-TV he likes horses because they helped him deal with learning and behavioral issues.
That’s why he asked for cash for his birthday and has since donated the money to the Bethlehem Police Department’s Mounted Patrol. He’s hoping it will be used to help build new stables for the police animals.
The boy’s mom, Christie Hackett, says when she asked her son if he was sure he wanted to donate the money, he pushed it toward her and said, “They need it more than I do.”
Bethlehem police say they were “touched” by the gift.
