OTTUMWA, Iowa — Authorities arrested the husband of a deceased reserve sheriff’s deputy on suspicion of killing his wife and their unborn child as friends, family and police attended her visitation Wednesday night.

Washington County Corrections Officer and Wapello County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Officer Lisa Techel, 23, was in her home in Agency when she was shot and killed Saturday, KWWL reported.

Police arrested her husband Seth Techel, 21, at her viewing service just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, charging him with murder and nonconsensual termination of a pregnancy. At the time of her death, Techel was five months pregnant with what would have been the couple’s first child.

Wapello County Sheriff Don Kirkendall said based on information gathered so far in the investigation, he is confident her husband is the killer.

“Everything we would do would lead us back to Mr Techel and it became very obvious he was the perpetrator of the crime,” he said.

Seth Techel was recently hired to work in the Wapello County Jail, according to Radio Iowa.

Law enforcement officers from across the state attended Techel’s funeral Thursday morning.
