This week’s photo recognizes the incredible contributions of retired officer, accomplished writer and Police1 columnist Lt. Dan Marcou, who recently penned his 500th article for Police1.
Reflecting on his journey, Dan shares how his passion for storytelling was ignited: “Years ago, when I wrote my first book, a history of the La Crosse Police Department, a retired college professor called me at the PD and said, ‘You are a writer. You need to write.’ I asked, ‘Should I take a college course or something?’ She said, ‘No! They will ruin you. You are a storyteller. Tell your stories and find a good editor.’”
Since penning his first Police1 article, “5 phases of the active shooter,” in 2008, Dan has written an astonishing 503 articles!
“I want to thank everyone at Police1 for giving a retired cop, who never lost his passion for the profession, a voice and the opportunity to continue to contribute,” Dan says. “The opportunity to remain relevant in this profession has been priceless.”
Thank you, Dan, for your dedication to law enforcement and for sharing your stories and insights with Police1 readers over the years. Your wisdom has helped ensure thousands of officers go home safely to their families every day.
