SYRACUSE, N.Y. — He may not like our strip malls, but he loves our bars and officers.

Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, said Wednesday that a fundraising drive has raised $600,000 for the family of slain Onondaga County Sheriff Lt. Michael Hoosock.

Half of the money comes from $200,000 of shirt sales, a $100,000 donation from UFC president and CEO Dana White, Portnoy said on X, formerly known as Twitter. The other $300,000 comes from Portnoy matching the donations.

“I’d love to get this to1 million so I’ll continue to match until we get there,” Portnoy announced around noon on Wednesday.

Last year Portnoy came to Syracuse after the city won a Barstool competition for best bar town. He also called the Northern Lights Plaza in Mattydale “disgusting” but gave Paladino’s pizza a 7.5/10.

Hoosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen were killed in a hail of gunfire in Salina Sunday night. The shooter, Christopher R. Murphy, 33, was killed by police.

Portnoy’s fundraiser is just one of many fundraisers for the families of the officers.
