CLEVELAND — An officer has died on duty as a result of an unspecified medical emergency, News 5 Cleveland reported.
Cleveland Police Department Officer Victor Claudio, 53, died Jan. 1 after a medical emergency occurred while he was at headquarters.
“Our hearts are broken and our deepest condolences are with the Claudio family during this difficult time,” the CPD stated.
Claudio was a 23-year veteran of the department, according to the report. He was honored with a distinguished service medal for saving a man’s life in 2014. Claudio and his partner performed CPR on the man until EMS arrived on the scene.
“The officers’ quick actions of performing lifesaving CPR while requesting the response of medical personnel helped save the man’s life,” city officials stated at the time.
