COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Columbus Police Department is in mourning after Sgt. Richard McMahan died in the line of duty last month. McMahan was running on a treadmill in the department’s gym when he suffered a fatal heart attack, reported the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP).
McMahan, 59, was participating in his department’s wellness program to prepare for an annual fitness test, the report says.
McMahan had served with Columbus PD for over 40 years. He’s survived by his wife and two children.
