ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Missouri police are mourning Det. Antonio Valentine, who died in the line of duty on Wednesday. Valentine, 42, was killed when another driver crashed into his unmarked cruiser, according to the St. Louis Dispatch. The other driver was also killed.

According to the report, the driver was fleeing an attempted traffic stop when it collided with Valentine’s cruiser. Valentine and his partner, who escaped with minor injuries, were responding to the call. The suspect’s car was found to have been reported stolen in October, police said.

“Grieve with us. Support us,” said St. Louis County Police Chief Kenneth Gregory. “Support the family for all that they’re going through and we’ll get through this the best way we can.”

Valentine joined the department in 2007. The investigation is ongoing.
