CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A police officer has died just over a week after being struck by a vehicle while conducting traffic for a funeral procession, WABI reported.
Senior Officer Vicente Ortiz of the Corpus Christi Police Department died on June 1, according to the report. Ortiz was hit on May 21 while providing an escort for the procession. According to a GoFundMe page set up for his family, Ortiz was thrown off his motorcycle by the impact.
“We mourn the loss of a great husband, father, son, brother, friend and co-worker,” the police department shared in a Facebook post.
Ortiz served with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 15 years, according to the report. He is survived by his wife and two children. The department has requested the community to keep Officer Ortiz and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
