CHILDRESS, Texas — The Childress County Sheriff’s Office is mourning Reserve Deputy Tom Hoobler, who died July 17 while on duty.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said Hoobler was helping a stranded motorist when he died. The deputy was sitting in his patrol car with the lights on to direct traffic when “he quietly passed away,” the agency said.
He died of a heart attack, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Hoobler had been with the agency since 2003. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
