NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y. — Five police officers are recovering from various injuries after a driver rammed four patrol vehicles during a pursuit on Sunday, CBS News reported.
According to Nassau County police, the incident began when officers attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle. The driver “intentionally collided” with a marked cruiser and fled, police said. Officers began a pursuit and the driver again purposefully struck three more police vehicles, causing heavy damage.
Police arrested three offenders between the ages of 16 and 17. Two were released with ankle bracelets and one was held due to an outstanding warrant, police said.

Patrick Ryder, the Nassau County Police Commissioner, says the public needs to do their part to secure their vehicles.
“My cops are getting hurt trying to recover your property that, if it was locked, we wouldn’t be in this situation. I wouldn’t have five cops that are out sick and maybe career-ending injuries,” Ryder said at a news conference.
About 97% of stolen cars are left unlocked with key fobs inside, according to CBS News.
