BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — After threatening his ex-girlfriend and locking her out of her Edna Avenue apartment, a city man spent hours throwing everything from plates to an air conditioner at officers on the sidewalk three floors below him, police said.
The woman told officers she and Devin Robinson, 40, had broken up, but she allowed him to return to her apartment Wednesday to move his things out, city police spokesman William Kaempffer said.
He eventually did move some things out of the apartment, in a sense, among them an air conditioner, gaming console, canned food and pots and pans which he threw from the third-floor window at police standing outside, Kaempffer said.
The incident began shortly before 7 p.m., Kaempffer said, when Robinson’s ex-girlfriend called police to report that the pair had gotten into an argument and he asked someone on the phone to get him “three throwaways,” referring to firearms, Kaempffer said.
When the woman went to answer the doorbell, Robinson locked her out, the police responded and city police Detectives Michael Fiumidinisi and Chris Borona, both crisis negotiators, tried to coax him outside.
He did come outside eventually, Kaempffer said, when he climbed out the window and proceeded to curse at the officers below, threaten them and ultimately throw the objects at them, Kaempffer said.
In the end, the department’s Emergency Services Unit responded, got into the apartment and arrested Robinson after a struggle, he said.
He was charged with five counts of assault on a police officer, three counts of threatening, interfering with police and various other charges.
