WASHINGTON COUNTY, Neb. — A deputy is determined to return to duty after he was injured during a UTV accident last month.

Washington County Deputy Sheriff Austin Kelley was responding to a missing persons search on August 21 when the utility vehicle he and his sergeant were driving in overturned, KETV.com reported.

“We both fell out and fell down into the deep ravine, ultimately rendering me unconscious,” Kelley recalled.

Kelley suffered a brain bleed, broken back and concussion. The right side of his face, he says, is still numb. He’s currently undergoing speech and occupational therapy but says he will “be back soon.”

A GoFundMe was created to help Kelley with medical expenses, which has currently raised nearly $8,000.
