NEW YORK — An off-duty NYPD officer visiting family in a Harlem housing project was shot in his foot Saturday by ski-mask wearing suspects, said police sources.
The officer, whose name has not been released, saw a group of ski-masked men entering the a building at the Manhattanville Houses, on Broadway near W. 126th St. just after 4:35 p.m., said police and police sources.
As the officer argued with the men, one of them pulled out a gun and fired three shots, said police sources.
The officer was hit in the left foot, and did not himself fire any shots, said the sources.
The suspects ran off. The police officer was taken for treatment at Mount Sinai/Morningside Hospital, and reported in stable condition, the sources said.
Police were searching late Saturday for three men involved in the shooting, sources said.
It was the seventh time an NYPD officer was shot in 2022.
