COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police this morning have fatally shot a suspect in a double shooting. At least one officer was injured in the shootout in a Walmart parking lot near Easton.
Grove City police said the suspect is Danny Thornton, 47.
Police had been looking for Thornton, who they say shot a child in Grove City and then a woman in a dentist’s chair in Southeast Columbus.
The shootings began shortly before 8 a.m. The woman was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center with a single gunshot wound, according to medics. She was in a dental office at 4409 Crossroads Center.
The boy was shot in the face in the 2000 block of Independence Way in Grove City, Grove City police said. The child’s condition is unknown.
Earlier this morning police said Thorton was armed and dangerous and driving a blue Toyota Camry, which later was spotted at the Walmart. The officer injured in the shootout was taken to Grant Medical Center and was alert and talking when he was transported, according to police.
Students at Highland Park Elementary School on Cameron Street in Grove City were being kept in the building and could not leave without a police escort, according to school officials.
