NEW YORK — An NYPD officer shot in his bullet-resistant vest in Brooklyn was quickly released from the hospital and is resting at home, police said Monday.
The officer’s partner, who suffered a graze wound in the Sunday night confrontation with the gunman, was also treated and released.
Officers were responding to a 911 call that an unhinged man shot his 45-year-old roommate in the leg in a second-floor apartment on Hawthorne St. near Flatbush Ave. in Prospect Lefferts Gardens about 9:15 p.m.
The caller said the man was having a breakdown and talking to himself before the shooting, sources said.
When police arrived in the hallway to the apartment building, the gunman opened fire, striking one officer and grazing the other, cop sources said.
The officer didn’t realize for some time he’d been struck in the chest, sources said. Both cops were taken to Kings County Hospital, then later released.
The 44-year-old suspect was arrested, police said. His name was not immediately released and charges against him were pending.
His roommate was hospitalized.
