LOS ANGELES — Intense body camera footage shows the moment a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was inside a cruiser as a suspect rammed his SUV into the side of the patrol vehicle, KABC reports.

The incident happened in late June when the deputy saw a white SUV enter the intersection while speeding and doing “donuts,” L.A. County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

“As the deputy entered the intersection in an attempt to warn other drivers on the road of the potential danger and initiate a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle is believed to have intentionally collided into the deputy’s patrol vehicle,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy’s body-worn camera video shows the deputy firing several shots at the SUV while he was inside the cruiser.

A bystander’s video of the incident shows the driver ram into the back of the cruiser. The driver then backed up and accelerated into the driver’s side of the cruiser two more times before the deputy opened fire.

The white SUV then reverses and drives into the cruiser again. The SUV drives away, eventually stopping in the middle of the road.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds.
