RANGER, Texas — The small town of Ranger, Texas, was engulfed in fire Thursday afternoon after a brush fire got out of hand.
Video shows the town’s police department building and a 100-year-old church completely engulfed in flames, reported WFAA. Ranger’s fire chief says the blaze may have been started by a barbecue pit and fueled by high winds.
The city of Ranger is about 85 miles west of Fort Worth and has just under 2,500 residents, according to the report.
“We knew coming into today, we had that red flag warning. We had everything ready throughout the county,” said Fire Chief Darrell Fox. “But when we have the winds like there was today and the humidity down nothing, this is what you’re going to get.”
Crews from multiple towns responded to help contain the flames.
