FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured after a woman struck him with her car in the sheriff’s office parking lot after a disturbance, CBS12 reported.
The driver can be seen on security camera footage fleeing the scene after the incident, according to the report.
According to LCSO, the disturbance began when someone entered the sheriff’s office to file a report about an issue with the suspect. A deputy who was working at the front desk of the LCSO headquarters went outside to speak with the suspect in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
As the conversation continued, the deputy noted that the suspect became erratic, prompting the deputy to call for backup, according to the LCSO. The suspect then reversed her car at high speed, hitting the deputy and knocking him to the ground.
Video footage from the scene shows the deputy in pain as the suspect fled. Shortly afterward, LCSO located the suspect at a nearby store, where she resisted arrest.
The suspect has been charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence, according to the report.
