YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Five law enforcement officers were shot, three fatally, while serving a warrant in North Codorus Township.

The shooting happened around 2:10 p.m. on Sept. 17 after a 911 call, according to Ted Czech with the York County Office of Emergency Management. Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation.

Three officers from the Northern York Regional Police Department were killed in the incident, the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association said.

Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Chris Paris said during a news conference that the two surviving officers remain in critical but stable condition at WellSpan York Hospital. He declined to identify the agencies involved, citing the active investigation.

The suspected gunman is dead after being shot by police, Paris said.

Gov. Josh Shapiro said he met with the families of the fallen officers. Despite their grief, he said, they expressed “how proud they are of their loved ones who put on a uniform to keep us safe.”
