EVERETT, Mass. — Middlesex District Attorney’s Office posted videos of a police-involved shooting in Everett that shows the officer backing away from a knife-wielding man, then shooting as the man charges him.
Mario Mejia Martinez, 48, of Everett was shot dead on Broadway April 21. The videos, posted on YouTube, include footage from two private security cameras and three city of Everett cameras, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
“These videos will give the public access to preliminary facts while we continue to conduct a full, fair and thorough investigation into this matter,” she said. “At the conclusion of the investigation we will be releasing a full report.”
The most complete video shows the officer approach Martinez, then back away. Martinez then charges the cop, who opens fire. Martinez falls forward to the pavement just as the officer’s backup arrives.
Cops were called to the intersections because of reports that Martinez was harassing pedestrians.
The videos already have been made available to Martinez’s relatives, Ryan said.
