GREENFIELD, Wis. — A Wisconsin police officer is in critical condition and the suspect is dead after a traffic stop turned violent Sunday.
According to CBS 58, the incident began when the driver fled, leading police on a brief pursuit. The suspect crashed, got out of the car and started firing at officers, hitting a Greenfield police officer multiple times. Two other officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
Police said that the wounded officer, identified only as a 36-year-old, is stable but in critical condition.
Cellphone video shot from a nearby home shows multiple officers responding to the chaotic scene. Shots are heard in the video.
The incident remains under investigation.
