BWC: Agitated Fla. man points gun at stranger’s front door before fatal OIS

Lake County deputies found the man demanding to be let into a house; when a deputy refused to enter, the man began banging on the door and pointed a gun at the window

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office released body-worn camera footage showing the moment a man pulled a gun to threaten a person inside a home, leading to a fatal officer-involved shooting, ClickOrlando.com reported.

The incident occurred on April 12, following reports of a “suspicious person” yelling at vehicles and pounding on a resident’s door, according to the report. Deputies responding to the scene encountered a man outside who was agitated and incoherent.

Bodycam footage shows the man shouting about a woman being inside a home and insisting deputies enter. The deputy at the scene attempts to calm him and repeatedly asks the man to show his hands.

The man initially clutches what appears to be a phone, then admits he is armed. The deputy then draws his firearm and gives multiple commands to put his hands up.

Despite the warnings, the man moves toward the home, yelling and slamming on the door. He then pulls a handgun from his waistband. At that point, the deputy fires, striking the man.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. No one else was injured.

Investigators confirmed that the residents inside the home did not know the suspect. He was later determined to have committed attempted armed burglary and aggravated assault on law enforcement during the encounter.
