TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Police Department has released body camera footage showing an officer involved shooting of a man who emerged from an apartment with a rifle, according to a video release by the Pima County Regional Critical Incident Team.
The 911 call audio included in the March 1 release shows that neighbors heard sounds of a domestic disturbance along with several gunshots. When officers arrived on the scene on Feb. 2, they heard several shots coming from inside the complex. They also learned that the other people inside the unit had separated themselves from the person with the firearm, now identified as Fabian Garcia, 23, according to the video release.
Officers then began evacuating surrounding apartments while the Tucson Police Department SWAT team ensured that Garcia was contained in the apartment, according to the release.
Body camera video then shows Garcia open the door of the apartment and start to walk out, holding a rifle. Officers identified themselves and instructed him to put his hands up. Instead, Garcia can be seen coming further out of the apartment while shifting the rifle to his right side and moving his other hand toward it.
Four officers then fired shots, hitting Garcia, according to the release. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else at the scene was injured.
