RENO, Nev. — The Reno Police Department released video footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting of a man who, in an attempt to flee officers, drove at high speeds on the wrong side of the road with an officer inside the vehicle, FOX 11 reported.

The incident occurred on Nov. 18 when authorities located a man who was wanted on multiple charges, including reckless driving and obstructing and resisting police during two separate incidents the previous weekend. A warrant was active for his arrest at the time, according to the report.

The department’s critical incident release also included footage from the incidents that resulted in the warrants. The first incident occurred when officers stopped the suspect for driving without a license, according to the release. The suspect can be seen refusing to exit his vehicle before officers pulled him out of the car. He physically resisted the officers and was ultimately able to get back in the car. He was tased, but managed to drive away after the effects of the TASER wore off.

The second incident occurred when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a suspicious vehicle with no license plate, the release shows. Dash camera footage shows the suspect fleeing again from officers, striking cruisers as he sped out of a dirt parking lot.

The officer-involved shooting happened when officers located the man a third time and again attempted to bring him into custody, according to the report.

Police said a deputy on patrol attempted to take the suspect into custody when a physical altercation ensued. According to the department, the suspect ignored commands, entered a vehicle and drove off with the officer trapped inside. The vehicle crashed, but the suspect continued trying to restart it and ignored further commands.

Video of the incident shows the officer trying to wrestle control of the vehicle as braking sounds can be heard.

Once the vehicle was restarted, the man drove at high speed on the wrong side of the road while the officer remained inside. Video shows that during this time, the officer drew his firearm, and when the suspect attempted to seize the weapon, a shooting occurred.

Officers on the scene provided medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead. The officer involved sustained minor injuries and was placed on administrative leave, following standard protocol.

The Sparks Police Department is leading the investigation under the regional officer-involved shooting protocol, according to the report.
