HOUSTON — The Houston Police Department has released body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting of a man who fired shots at officers, according to a department news release.
The incident occurred on May 6 when officers were dispatched following a report of a suspicious person with a weapon, according to the release. The suspect was described as possibly having fired a handgun outside his residence.
Upon arrival, officers saw the suspect sitting in a lawn chair outside an open garage, wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest and a gun belt.

As officers attempted to engage the suspect in conversation, he retreated into the garage and drew a gun, pointing it at an officer. He ignored repeated instructions to drop the gun.
After the suspect continued to point the gun toward officers, an officer fired at the suspect, striking him. Video shows the suspect continuing to retreat into his residence, firing multiple shots at the officers, none of whom were hit.
A perimeter was established around the residence, and officers made phone contact with the suspect and his mother inside, according to the release. The suspect’s mother agreed to place his gun outside and opened the front door, allowing officers to take him into custody without further incident.
No officers were injured in the incident, according to the release. The suspect faces three counts of aggravated assault against a public servant. He sustained gunshot wounds, received treatment at a local hospital and was then booked into jail.
