REDDING, Calif. — Newly released body camera footage shows a man throwing rocks at officers and charging at an officer with a knife, leading to an officer-involved shooting, the Redding Record Searchlight reported.
The Redding Police Department released footage on May 10 from an officer-involved shooting on April 10, according to the report. The footage shows the incident that unfolded after police confronted two men for trespassing on private property.
During the confrontation, one man, who appeared to be under the influence, resisted leaving and made threats towards the officers. Two officers remained by the suspect’s belongings, which were at the foot of a hill, while the suspect reluctantly climbed to the top of the hill where another officer was waiting.

As the suspect climbed the hill, he continued to yell at officers at the bottom. After reaching the top, he picked up a rock and threw it at the officers.
The officers then pursued the suspect up the hill. The suspect fled, running through traffic.
Video shows an officer arriving at the scene in a cruiser. As the officer got out of the vehicle, the suspect ran at him with a knife in his hand. The officer then fired several shots at the suspect, bringing him to the ground.
The suspect was treated for gunshot wounds and was later booked into Shasta County Jail without bail, according to the report. He faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an executive officer.
